DSQ Training Packages

For Disability Support Workers

Providing essential training and support aligned to NDIS standards
At Diabetes Support Queensland, our training packages on diabetes management are aligned to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission Practice Standards ‘High Intensity Skill Descriptors’ for providers. This ensures that the complex diabetes support that you provide to your clients is delivered in a high quality and safe manner.

The Diabetes Essentials package is for those of you who supervise and prompt people to manage their diabetes, while the in-depth Diabetes Essentials Plus+ training is for those who actively assist people with diabetes management tasks such as testing blood glucose levels.
Customised solutions
When it comes to meeting your training requirements, our customised diabetes management training and support programs are tailor-made to meet your individual clients’ needs and designed to deliver tangible benefits that propel your team’s learning experience and your business success.

In order to provide this, we will do an individualised diabetes management assessment of your client’s needs, reviewing their existing diabetes management, ability to manage their diabetes, and how much support they may require.

After this we conduct an organisational assessment to determine your business’ training requirements in order to understand how many people will be involved, what skills your team will need to learn, and how much follow-up and support they may require after the training.

We then align the learning outcomes so that the training for your support staff is tailored to both the client living with diabetes as well as being fine-tuned to match the needs of your team.
Training sessions
At DSQ, we understand the challenges of scheduling training around operational requirements, so the delivery of our programs is highly flexible. Sessions can be arranged to suit the needs of your organisation and staffing requirements. For example, programs can be delivered in one session, or split into several sessions. They can be conducted in-person and/or online to capture as many participants as possible, covering your staff that are at work, those that are available to attend training, and those who are at home and prefer to do a Zoom session.

Our training programs can be completed in as little as 2 to 4 hours, depending on the level of training that is required and the needs of your organisation. The training sessions themselves will be determined by the complexity of the diabetes management plan. They are usually conducted as single 2 to 4 hour sessions.

We also offer follow-up sessions. These are especially useful as the needs of the client living with diabetes may change over time.
With DSQ you will benefit from:
  • Effective personalised diabetes management training that is specific to your clients’ and/or organisational requirements
  • Step-by-step diabetes emergency plans to suit your clients’ and/or organisational needs
