These and other questions are common problems faced by people living with diabetes. At Diabetes Support Queensland we offer unique services to individuals living with diabetes mellitus. Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge and the support to manage day-to-day requirements, understand the regular monitoring required, and navigate diabetes emergencies.
Starting with a thorough assessment, we identify any barriers to diabetes care and then provide you with a personalised action plan tailored to your needs. We offer resources and practical strategies that can help you take charge of your health and improve your quality of life.
For people living with diabetes DSQ provides:
- Home visits / mobile services available
- Remote / tele-health services available
- Help with day-to-day diabetes care, including insulin injections
- Blood glucose monitoring options
- Self-management coaching for diabetes
- Education and support for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

Do you feel overwhelmed? Confused? Feel that sometimes it’s all a bit much?
Diabetes requires active management every day. DSQ can provide guidance and advice on how to manage diabetes effectively. We offer clear, easy to understand information along with skills, hints and tips on how to help those you care for stay well and live their best lives.
For caregivers DSQ provides:
- Clear, concise information on what diabetes mellitus is and how to manage it
- Training in day-to-day care, including insulin injections
- Education on what a diabetes emergency is, how to help those you care for avoid them, and the skills to respond if an emergency should occur
- Plus special assistance for people caring for someone with diabetes who has a disability or is living with an impaired memory such as an acquired brain injury or dementia

We have worked in both the inpatient and outpatient departments of teaching hospitals and provided education to clients with complications due to diabetes as well as to the staff and service-providers who are there to assist them. One of our main goals at DSQ is to prevent avoidable hospital admissions due to diabetes through timely education and support.
By providing knowledge, training and skills we aim to empower support workers and service providers and help them to improve the health and wellbeing of their clients living with diabetes.
For service-providers DSQ offers:

- Education on both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
- Training in day-to-day diabetes care, including giving insulin injections
- Creating diabetes management plans

At DSQ we are here to help. We understand that finding your way around The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can be stressful. The system can be confusing and difficult to navigate with a range of requirements to fulfil.
As an NDIS service provider, DSQ is able to provide participants in the NDIS with a high level of education and support. We can help you by providing diabetes assessments, reviewing your NDIS plan, and helping you to access supports, resources and tools.
One of the NDIS requirements for participants with diabetes is a comprehensive diabetes management plan for both the participant and their caregivers. DSQ has the expertise and experience to provide individualised plans that give clear guidance on how best to manage diabetes on a daily basis.
